The 4.0 firmware that was announced today adds, among other things, 'auto capture' which looks to be all you need to camera traps and unattended shooting. You can configure it to only trigger on motion in a certain direction and between certain distances. It can do people/animal/vehicle detect as well. Both for photo and video.
